External Description:

This one bedroom apartment is on the 4th floor, without elevator (90 steps) in a building located on a quiet street in the Oltrarno, with easy access to all the services that the city has to offer. The interesting church of Cestello, with its theatre, are nearby Casa Elisa, from which you can easily reach Carmine Square and the famous Brancacci Chapel, where you can admire the masterpieces of Masaccio.

It was recently renovated and ilaid out on two floors. It consists of a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower, and it can sleep up to 4 people. From the small entrance way, on the right you will find the cozy living room with television and a double sofa bed (160 cm). Climbing the steel and wooden stairs, you find the mezzanine with a double bed (180 cm) not dividable and a refined vanity table. The skylight above the bedroom allows bright natural light in, but it can also be shaded at nighttime. Going ahead from the living room, there is the fully equipped kitchen, furnished with white wood furniture, giving the room a romantic and warm atmosphere. The kitchen has induction burners and is full of light, as it has 2 windows that overlook the Florentine hills. On the first floor there is a completely renovated bathroom with shower. Climbing the stairs you can reach a cozy terrace overlooking Florence. At sunset the terrace becomes the perfect location for a cocktail and some relaxation. Finally, air conditioning is in the living room and in the kitchen.

Our Opinion:

The apartment Casa Elisa is the ideal choice for a couple or a single who wants to live in the quiet area of the Oltrarno. The location, close to the city center and to the main streets makes Casa Elisa the perfect choice for short and medium length rentals. The spectacular views make up for the many steps to climb.

Area:

The apartment is located in the Oltrarno district in Florence’s historic city centre. The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno” and this neighborhood which stretches along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence than that of the area near the Duomo. The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and in general is slightly quieter, greener, and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence. Indeed many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally an artisans’ quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts today many lovely antique shops and artisans’ studios (in particular furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence’s thriving antique trade.

Over time the Oltrarno became a rather chic area and many aristocrats chose this neighbourhood to build their villas and palaces, the largest of these being the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today this sumptuous palace houses several important museums which rank amongst the best in Florence. Other major sights the Oltrarno has to offer are the Cappella Brancacci with the fabulous frescoes of Masaccio, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breath-taking views over Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points in the city of Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany) together with the most famous and oldest bridge in Florence, the Ponte Vecchio, home to a glittering array of jewellery shops and goldsmiths.

Extending up the hill from the Pitti Palace are the formal Boboli Gardens, an outdoor museum of garden sculpture that includes Roman antiquities as well as 16th and 17th century masterpieces.

The Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni, and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market held every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those choosing an apartment in this area the Oltrarno quarter also offers a variety of grocery stores, pastry shops, bakeries, gift shops, and much more.
