The house has extensive outdoor livingspace, including open and covered terraces, a covered deck and a largesheltered open-air courtyard. A huge, fully equipped entertainer's kitchen withscullery makes it ideal for events or parties. As well as the large main livingarea, which gives out onto the large covered deck, there are three otherself-contained indoor living areas. These include a spacious entertainment roomwith pool table, a large den/library space and an intimate downstairs loungearea. The Gabriel Residence sleeps eight people in four equal-status kingbedrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs, all with superb views and luxuriousen suite bathrooms.

Designed by leading New Zealand architectPip Cheshire, the Gabriel Residence consists of two parallel gabled structuresthat nestle into the slope of the land. Its high, open, airy rooms allowcontinuous views out while still offering a strong sense of warmth andenclosure. The house is primarily constructed in unfinished hardwood timber andraw concrete, allowing it to soften into the coastal landscape. Furnished withan understated mix of modern pieces, New Zealand antiques and Pacific art, theinterior is full of the natural tones and textures of wood, rich textiles,stone and metal.
